When Samina first took on singing lessons, she had not yet made the conscious choice between Puccini, Verdi and Bizet’s style of opera and the jazz stylings of Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan and Nina Simone. Surprisingly enough, her soprano voice developed rapidly and easily prompting her teacher to introduce her to opera’s greatest melodies. However, after three years of intense practice, at over four hours a day, and while refusing to heed her body’s danger signals, Samina’s voice became rebellious and she decided to take a break. A few months later she was invited to participate in a cabaret production of "Look at me" at Le Lion D’or in which she sang a jazzy duet. From then on, her life was transformed by her rediscovery and love of jazz music!

"How I Feel", Samina’s first album, opens up a window to her soul, Latin and blues tinted jazz universe, and is available across Canada since March 15 2005. The album was produced and arranged by Guy Dubuc and Marc Lessard, a duo very much in demand. They are mostly recognized in the jazz world as the music directors and arrangers of Soleil de Minuit, the main event that in 2004 celebrated both the 25th anniversary of the MIJF and the 20th anniversary of Cirque Du Soleil. Louis Côté, composer and arranger, also produced six songs. Mixing and mastering of the album came courtesy of Claude Simard (Djelem Project, Marc-André Hamelin, Natalie Choquette, Plajia). Lastly, Rod Shearer (Corey Hart, Rufus Wainwright, Wilfred Le Bouthillier) and François Lalonde (Céline Dion) both collaborated as sound engineers.

How I Feel includes covers of great classics from: Leonard Cohen ("Dance Me To The End Of Love", the album’s first single and video), Cole Porter ("You’d Be So Nice To Come Home To"), Amy Sky ("Under The Influence"), Antonio Carlos Jobim ("Quiet Nights Of Quiet Stars-Corcovado"), and Ira and George Gershwin ("Embraceable You"). There are also four original songs penned by producers Dubuc, Lessard and Côté, and lyricist Rodolphe Charpentier. As a bonus, Samina covers Joe Dassin’s all time French classic (“Et si tu n’existais pas”, the second single and video) in a very personal way.

Alors que Samina entreprenait ses cours de chant, elle n’avait pas encore choisi entre l’opéra de Puccini, Verdi et Bizet et le jazz d’Ella Fitzgerald, de Sarah Vaughan et de Nina Simone. Or, ses notes aiguës se sont développées rapidement et avec puissance; son professeur l’introduisit donc aux grands airs d’opéra jusqu’à ce qu’après trois ans d’entraînement intensif, au rythme de quatre heures par jour- et refusant d’écouter les signaux que lui envoyaient son corps- sa voix devint rebelle et elle décida de prendre une pause. Quelque temps plus tard, elle fut invitée à chanter en duo un air jazzy au spectacle de cabaret “Regarde-moi” au Lion D’or et sa vie fut dès lors transformée par la redécouverte et l’amour du jazz!

"How I Feel", son premier album en carrière qui ouvre une fenêtre sur son univers jazz teinté de soul, de musique latine et de blues est disponible à travers depuis le 15 mars 2005. L’album a été réalisé et arrangé par Guy Dubuc et Marc Lessard, un duo des plus en demande, surtout reconnu dans le domaine du jazz en tant que directeurs musicaux et arrangeurs du grand événement de l’été 2004 Soleil de minuit, célébrant les 25 ans du FIJM et les 20 ans du Cirque Du Soleil, ainsi que par Louis Côté, compositeur et réalisateur et finalement Claude Simard (Djelem Project, Marc-André Hamelin, Natalie Choquette, Plajia) a assuré la réalisation du mixage et du mastering. Rod Shearer (Corey Hart, Rufus Wainwright, Wilfred Le Bouthillier) a aussi collaboré au mixage comme ingénieur de son de même que François Lalonde (Céline Dion).

 How I Feel propose donc entre autres des reprises de grands classiques de Leonard Cohen ("Dance Me To The End Of Love", le premier extrait vidéo), Cole Porter ("You’d Be So Nice To Come Home To"), Amy Sky ("Under The Influence"), Antonio Carlos Jobim ("Quiet Nights Of Quiet Stars - Corcovado"), Ira et George Gershwin ("Embraceable You"), ainsi que quatre chansons originales courtoisies des Dubuc / Lessard, Louis Côté et du parolier Rodolphe Charpentier. En boni, une reprise tout à fait surprenante du grand succès de Joe Dassin,"Et si tu n’existais pas", le deuxième extrait vidéo.
